There are several program durations you can choose from. High school students come on year, semester, and summer programs; the most popular being the year long. Teachers come on semester and year long programs. Most of the students on the year long program arrive in early August and leave in late June. More details can be found at the USA AFS Hosting site.
Short biographies of students who have been accepted into the program start to become available as early as January for arrivals in August. The bios trickle in thoughout the winter and spring. Family placements in the Chicago area must be completed by a few weeks before arrival so students can obtain the necessary entry VISAs.

For 60 years, AFS Intercultural Programs has been leading international high school student exchange. AFS was founded by volunteer American Field Service ambulance drivers from World Wars I and II who believed — as AFS believes today — that the way to build a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries meet, learn about each other, and begin to understand each other. AFS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is largely a volunteer-driven organization, with more than 5,500 U.S. volunteers and 30,000 worldwide.
